This year we have a key goal to review the overall effectiveness of teaching and learning across the curriculum, with a major review of our English Curriculum. In particular we are focusing on improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning in Reading, looking at best practice and the latest research. Our teachers are already well underway with a collaborative inquiry into the strengths of their current reading programmes, and exploring new strategies to improve outcomes for our students.

It is positive for our school and students that we are already placing a significant focus in this area and will be taking advantage of any further funding or professional development that will now become available to us.
What can you do to help?
Research shows that your ongoing involvement in your child's reading and learning is more important than anything else in helping them to fulfil their potential.
Children familiar with books and stories before they start school are better prepared to cope with formal literacy teaching.
Reading together is fun and helps build relationships.
Books contain new words that will help build your child's language and understanding.
When students read for pleasure they are likely to read more frequently and gain all the benefits of enhancing their literacy skills, learning outcomes, empathy, social skills and wellbeing.
In the coming weeks we will be sharing more ways we can work together to grow great NPS readers.
