Moving Smart: Building Brains Through Body Movement

Our Te Kākano students have been diving into the Moving Smart Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP)! This is a carefully designed program that builds the physical foundations children need to succeed in the classroom—from better focus to improved coordination.

To ensure our students get a "complete workout" for their development, we follow the Moving Smart Kinetic Scale. You can think of this as making sure all the "physical food groups" are covered! The program runs in two stages:

  • Floor Sessions (Monday afternoons): We focus on specific movements, teaching the brain and body exactly what to do in a controlled space.

  • Equipment Sessions (Tuesday mornings): This is where the magic happens! Each class has a 30-minute slot to rotate through five equipment stations, applying those learned movements to build confidence and balance.

How you can help:

  • Ask your child to show you what they learned in PMP on Mondays and Tuesdays—they love to demonstrate!

  • Practice "Shoes and Socks": Since the children participate in bare feet, it would be a huge help if you could practice taking shoes and socks off and on quickly at home.

By moving smart, we’re helping our kids learn better!
